In 2012, the Sony World Photography Awards will include categories for stereoscopic photos and videos for the first time.
The global photographic awards event is expanding to reflect the exponential growth of 3D video and photography among both professional and amateur photographers.
"The Sony World Photography Awards are all about being at the forefront of photography, embracing new trends and exploring the possibilities of advancing technology. We're very excited about the new and dynamic 3D video and photography awards," said Scott Gray, managing director of the World Photography Organisation.
The Sony World Photography Awards will add two categories for still 3D photography: 3D Panoramic and 3D Still. A third category will be added for 3D videos of all genres.
The global annual photography competition is free to enter and accepts works from both professional and amateur photographers.
In 2010 photographers from 48 countries submitted more than 80,000 images in categories such as fashion, music, architecture and current affairs. Entries for the 2012 photography awards are open until January 2012. All entered images must have been captured in 2011.
The shortlisted and winning images will be showcased at the Winners' Exhibition during the World Photography Festival in London in April 2012. The photographs will then be exhibited at various locations around the world as part of the Sony World Photography Awards Global Tour. - Relaxnews 2011
